There are two things you need to do when you next make fish fingers. Coat them in crushed Doritos and cook them in the air fryer. These homemade Doritos fish fingers are a real game changer and a huge hit with kids and adults.

My family are huge fans of doritos and if I need an easy coating for homemade fish fingers then crushed Doritos are my current go-to! The chilli heatwave Doritos are full of flavour are make a really tasty crispy crunchy coating. If you haven't tried them like this, trust me, Doritos are a brilliant alternative to breadcrumbs.
Not only are these homemade Doritos breaded fish fingers really tasty, they are also really simple to cook in the air fryer. Or if you don't have an air fryer, you can bake them too.
I've served my fish fingers in soft tacos but they are also delicious served the traditional fish finger way. Yes, these Doritos fish fingers are also delicious served with chips and peas!
However you eat them, they are super tasty and a real crowd-pleasing meal for kids and adults.
Ingredient notes for Doritos fish fingers
To make these Doritos fish fingers you'll need:
- Plain flour - Also called all purpose flour.
- Tajin - I use tajin to add a little extra flavour to the flour and but you can miss it out as the Doritos add most of the flavour. You can also add a different kind of chilli powder.
- Egg - This is so the Doritos crumbs will stick to the fish.
- Doritos - I used Chilli Heatwave. You could use a different flavour of Doritos though but I think the Chilli Heatwave ones go best with fish.
- Fish - I used cod but you can use another white fish. Pollock or haddock would be great alternatives.

How to make Doritos fish fingers
These homemade fish finger are really easy to make. First crush the Doritos. I put them in a ziplock bag and crush with a rolling pin but you could just scrunch the the packet with your hands. Then prepare three bowl. The first with the flour and tajin if you are using it. The second with the beaten egg and the third with the crushed Doritos.
Cut the fish into fingers and dip in the flour, then the egg and finally the doritos.
Air fry for about 10 minutes at 180C.

Can you adapt the recipe?
This recipe is really simple but of course you can make swaps. You can use a different flavour of Doritos or a different brand of tortilla chips. If you use a non-spicy brand, you could add some extra spices if you want more flavour.
Can you make these fish fingers in advance?
Yes you can. However, the fish fingers are not as good reheated as when they are freshly cooked for the first time. So, if you know you are not going to eat all the fish fingers, I would recommend just prepping them in advance and cooking before you eat them. You can prep them up to 24 hours in advance.
Of course, if you just end up with leftover cooked fish fingers you can still store them and reheat later.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. They will keep for 48 hours. You can reheat in the air fryer although they might end up a little bit dry.
Are there any other ways to use Doritos in cooking?
Yes of course! Doritos are really versatile and can also be used on chicken nuggets and as a salad topping as I've done on this Mexican inspired salad. There are so many ways to use them! You can even use them in a lasagne instead of pasta!

They came out really crispy and delicious but the cod wasn't over cooked. You can definitely tell the coating is Doritos too! It's a lovely way of adding flavour to fish fingers - much tastier than breadcrumbs.
