This refreshing mango and strawberry smoothie is a great way to get one of your 5 a day! Strawberries are amazing in smoothies and go brilliantly with mango. It's a really healthy way to start the day and the slight hint of ginger gives it some extra oomph too!

I am a huge fan of smoothies, a ginger addict and I can never resist fresh strawberries or mango. So, this strawberry mango and ginger smoothie is definitely my idea of the best summer smoothie!
It's a great recipe to make when strawberries are in season and really sweet. It's also a great recipe to make if you have somehow managed to buy too many strawberries and some of them are going just a little squishy. Put them in a smoothie and no one will be any the wiser!
I hate food waste and although smoothies are great with really fresh fruit, they are also a great way of using up any fruit that is beginning to go a little soft.
I add a little ginger to this smoothie as I absolutely love ginger and the little spicy kick it adds to a smoothie. However, I only add a little as I still want the strawberries and mango to shine. If you are not such a fan of ginger, you can miss it out and this smoothie will still be delicious.
What ingredients do you need for this smoothie?
I don't like to make my smoothies too complicated. This one is super simple with just 4 ingredients:
- Strawberries - As I said above, fresh sweet strawberries in season are best. Even if they are going a little soft they will still be great!
- Mango - I use fresh mango but if you have frozen chunks of mango in the freezer you can use that instead.
- Ginger - I use fresh root ginger. Just a little as I don't want it to overpower the fruit but I do love the flavour it adds. I usually grate it before putting it in so it blends more easily.
- Water - I use ice cold water from the fridge.

What equipment do you need?
I use my Froothie Evolve jug blender to blend the smoothie. It's a powerful blender and makes a really smooth smoothie. It's also great for soups and nice cream. However, any jug blender will work.
You can even use a stick blender. Just make sure you grate the ginger first otherwise you might get lumps of ginger in the smoothie.
Adaptations and substitutions
If you want to make this smoothie really cold then add some ice too before blending, as long as you are using a powerful blender.
You can also freeze the mango chunks or strawberries first or just pop them in the freezer for 20 minutes before making the smoothie.
If you are not sure about the idea of adding ginger, don't worry, just miss it out. You'll still get a lovely fruity mango and strawberry smoothie.

Can you replace the root ginger with ground ginger?
Yes, add just ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger if you want to substitute it for the root ginger.
Can you make it in advance?
Yes of course. Once you've made a smoothie you can keep it in the fridge for a couple of days. However, it can separate so you may need to mix it before drinking.
Of course, if you make it with fruit that is beginning to go soft, it's probably best to drink it the same day!

I'm not sure I've ever had strawberries and mango together. I'm guessing I must have done in a fruit salad or something, but now I want to try just the two together. With ginger of course. Like you, I'm a huge fan. The Smoothie has such a rich colour.
