This orange smoothie with carrot and ginger is my latest must-try ginger smoothie. Sweet from the orange and carrot but with a fierce ginger kick, it's a great smoothie recipe to kick start a healthy lifestyle.
At the end of last year I shared my love of ginger smoothies with a fruity green ginger smoothie and a tropical ginger smoothie. Well, my love of ginger smoothies is still ongoing and now I've also created this carrot and orange smoothie with ginger.
I have to say that until recently I didn't usually put oranges in a smoothie as I find them a bit of a faff to peel but actually, a little bit of the white isn't so important once the smoothie is all blended together. I'm now a convert to orange smoothies as well as ginger ones!
I'm also loving this orange, cranberry and ginger smoothie!
Putting veggies in a smoothie is a great way to get your 5-a-day!
This is also the first smoothie recipe I've created that included carrot. I love carrot and ginger soup and so combining them in a smoothie seemed natural. Well, apart from the fact that I don't like carrot juice. Or at least I didn't a few years ago when I last tried it.
However, adding vegetables to a smoothie is a great way to eat more of your 5-a-day and luckily, combined with orange and ginger, the carrot goes rather well in here. It's quite subtle and I'm even beginning to wonder if I should give carrot juice another chance. Hmmm. Maybe one day.
I make this orange and carrot smoothie in the Nutribullet
Anyway, last year I also shared how much I love my Nutribullet and how I'm trying to drink a smoothie every day. Well, I haven't managed one every day but I do try to make one most days. It definitely makes me feel more energetic on the days I do make one.
My Nutribullet really has become one of my favourite kitchen gadgets. It's easy to use, easy to clean and takes up very little space on my already overcrowded kitchen worktops!
Can you adapt this carrot ginger and orange smoothie?
There are only 3 main ingredients in this smoothie so that doesn't leave much room to adapt it without changing it completely.
However if you don't have any oranges, you could replace the orange with a grapefruit as long as it's not a really sour one!
Do you have to use root ginger in this smoothie?
I love root ginger and always have some in the fridge for making curries. However, you could replace it with a little stem ginger or even just a little ground ginger.

One of my favourites. I like to toss in a bit of pineapple too if I have some on the bench. Best way to start the morning
Corina Blum
Oh yum! Pineapple would be delicious in this. It goes so well with ginger too.

So funny that you have shared this smoothie. As you know hubby and I have been having smoothies every day for breakfast and we have been making almost this exact one lately. It's one of our favourites - such a lovely combination. The only difference is that we add a banana and a handful of cashews to ours....for extra nutrition and tummy fillingness!! Eb x
Corina Blum
I will have to try that next time. I add bananas to a lot of my smoothies but haven't used cashews very often x
Mandy
I love ginger in a smoothie - so delicious. I often put turmeric in as well.
Corina Blum
Turmeric seems to be quite a popular combination with the other ingredients so I'm definitely going to try it soon!

Such a vibrant colour! Carrot and orange with ginger is a fantastic combination. I used to juice quite a lot (not for a while mind you) and it was quite a frequent combo. Smoothie version sounds as delicious plus as you don't throw away the pulp it's also more filling and still oh so good for you. Love it! x
Corina Blum
Thanks Jo! I've got rather an addiction to ginger smoothies but I've only just started putting carrot in. It is delicious and I imagine a juice version is also really good. x

Yum! I literally had a juice like this at a cafe this morning and it was delish!
Corina Blum
It is quite simple but really tasty, isn't it? I'm trying to have a smoothie every day at the moment.
Corina Blum
The flavours work so well together, don't they?
TheHappyFoodKitchen
I totally prefer a smoothie with water rather and any type of milk, this sounds refreshing!
Corina Blum
Me too! I used to always add juice if I didn't use milk but then I realised they just don't need juice and the juice tends to mask the flavours of the other ingredients. I never add juice any more!

That looks so refreshing!

Thanks! It is!

Thanks Farrah! It's a really simple and easy smoothie but so refreshing. I love the Nutribullet too.
