Paneer is not just for curries! Try this vegetarian paneer burger. It's marinated in lemon and spices and topped with a drizzle of hot honey too. It's a delicious combination and a great alternative to other vegetarian burgers.
It's so important to have some quick and easy vegetarian dinner ideas and this spiced paneer burger is exactly that! It's quick to make so it's a great option when you don't have much time to make dinner.
It's also a great family friendly option as well as being really tasty. The paneer takes on the flavours of the spices and works well as burger. If you want to spice it up you can add extra sauces and pickles too so it's easy for everyone to customise.
Ingredient notes for vegetarian paneer burger
Do check out the full recipe card further down the page too. To make this vegetarian paneer burger you'll need:
- Lemon - this is for the marinade so you can use fresh lemon or bottled lemon juice. You can even replace it with white wine vinegar.
- Spices - I use a mixture of garlic powder, cumin, coriander and chilli powder. I used Kashmiri chilli powder but you could use cayenne pepper too.
- Hot honey - If you don't have hot honey you can mix few chilli flakes into some honey or just use regular honey.
How to make vegetarian paneer burger
These vegetarian burgers are really easy to make. Just mix up the spices with the lemon juice and then coat the paneer in them. You can let the paneer sit in the marinade for a short time if you want to or cook them straightaway.
To cook, heat a little oil in a frying pan to a medium heat. Cook the paneer for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Then just assemble the burgers in the buns with a drizzle of hot honey over the paneer. You can vary the fillings you add. I've added mayonnaise, salad leaves, tomato slices and onion.
Can you adapt the recipe?
Yes you can. You can easily change the flavours by using different spices. Why not try a Moroccan spice blend or a Middle Eastern spice blend instead? You can just use curry powder instead of the different spices.
You can also add extra fillings to the burgers. Slices of cucumber, avocado or bell pepper are also lovely in these spiced paneer burgers.
What can you serve with paneer burgers?
I love chips with a burger and often make these spiced air fryer fries to go with them. You could also make air fried harissa sweet potato wedges.
As well as carby side I also like to serve lots of extra salad on the side. This harissa carrot salad for example is lovely with them.
Storing and reheating
I don't like to cook and then reheat these paneer burgers as they are really quick and easy to cook anyway. If you aren't going to eat it straightaway I'd recommend leaving it in the marinade and then cooking it when you are ready. You can make the marinade up to 24 hours in advance if you need to.
Of course, you can reheat the cooked paneer but it is better when freshly cooked for the first time. If you cook it then reheat it, it may go a bit tough.
