This vegan dairy-free chocolate banana nice cream has just three ingredients and no added sugar. It's a completely guilt-free way to get your chocolate ice cream fix!
I love making ice cream at home for my family. You can find about lots of ice cream recipes here on Searching for Spice including banana fudge ice cream as well as raspberry and white chocolate ice cream. The only problem is that these recipes are not particularly healthy, despite the added fruit! I don't mind the occasional unhealthy treat but I do like healthier versions of our favourite desserts too!
So what are the 3 ingredients?
The only ingredients in this chocolate banana nice cream are bananas, almond milk and cocoa. If you don't have almond milk, use another milk substitute or regular milk if you don't need it to be vegan. Such a small amount of milk is used that it won't affect the taste so the type isn't important.
No added sugar and fat free!
I'm trying hard this month to eat little more healthily after enjoying lots rich and heavy food recently. The great thing about this chocolate banana nice cream is that it is still totally delicious. Even though it is fat-free and added sugar free, it still tastes sweet and chocolaty. The main difference is that it's slightly less creamy than real ice cream.
You can eat this chocolate nice cream and still feel like you are treating yourself!
How do you make nice cream?
Nice cream is so easy to make. You just need to plan in advance a little. At least half an hour before you make the ice cream you need to slice the bananas and put them in the freezer.
You then simply put everything in a blender and blitz until smooth. You can eat it immediately and it's like soft scoop ice cream or you can store it in the freezer till later or another day.
But is this chocolate banana nice cream just too healthy?
Can you eat too healthy? Well, I love this nice cream just as it is but I have to admit that we have a bottle of caramel sauce in the cupboard. You just need to think of recipes like banoffee pie or this amazing caramel banana upside down cake to know how well bananas and caramel go.
If you can't resist, I'm not stopping you from adding a squeeze of your favourite ice cream topping! Or a scattering of chocolate chips!
How to store this nice cream?
If you don't want to eat all this nice cream immediately it keeps really well in the freezer. It goes quite hard but not rock solid. It's still scoopable! That means it's a great make-ahead recipe.
You can store it in an airtight box in the freezer for up to three months.
Can you adapt this nice cream?
If you want to adapt this nice cream then go ahead. If you want to make it a little sweeter then add a little honey or maple syrup. Or why not squeeze in some caramel sauce?
If you want to make an adult version then a splash of rum works really well.

I'm loving the sound of this Corina - and the idea of topping it with caramel sauce, although not healthy, is a winner to me 🙂

We have caramel sauce in the cupboard because my husband loves it but now the children know about it it is impossible for them to eat ice cream without squeezing some on top! This is so healthy though that a little caramel sauce on top still makes the whole dish healthier than traditional ice cream! x

YUM! I have something similar as a smoothie on a regular basis but I need to try it as ice cream. Healthy ice cream is such a fab concept 😀 Thanks for linking up to #CookBlogShare. Eb x

I love banana ice cream so much, and although I'm not really a fan of chocolate ice cream, I really like chocolate banana ice cream. And let's face it, yummy desserts don't get much easier than this, do they? A total winner, in my book! xx

Exactly! It's so easy I'm surprised I haven't been making more of this type of ice cream. I just need to experiment with a few more flavours now!
